No Tyranny Tuesdays – 08/05 – 7:30 am – 9 am – Brier Creek Corner – Please Join Us!

One Person, One Hour, One Issue

Today, Sunday – what a lovely morning – cooler weather has finally arrived, at least for now. It looks like Tuesday morning will be equally cool, with only a slight chance of rain in the morning. I’ll update the weather report on Monday night if need be. Please check out the protest details at the end of this post.

Our purpose is to call out instances of tyranny by the present administration. In addition to the economic damage from chaotic tariffs, I am personally alarmed about the calculated attacks on judges and on the judiciary as a whole. I retired as a member of the bar over ten years ago. From the time I was sworn into the bar until I retired, I became accustomed to politicians increasingly complaining about “activist judges.” That’s a political position with which I disagree. But it is inconceivable to me that we have reached a point where attorneys sworn to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States, and who represent the United States, can look a federal judge in the eye and say to his or her face, “we don’t have to obey your orders.” If that isn’t tyranny, I don’t know what is. And it ought to get a lot of those attorneys disbarred, in my opinion.

But that’s one of my issues – what are yours? I hope you will join us and stand up for what you believe in. If you don’t have a sign, email me and I will make one up for you. (To my spouse’s dismay, I have a sign-making shop in the garage!)

By the way, if you haven’t come by Brier Creek Corner from 4 pm to 6 pm for Freedom Fridays, please do so if you need a shot of encouragement. Last Friday’s event can only be described as raucous fun. The honking and shouts of encouragement from passing traffic was the most intense and sustained that I have experienced since I started attending protests in the late winter. Those honks and thumbs up are not just fun, they remind us why it is important for at least some of us to be out on the corner – to show like-minded people that they are not alone, and that we will not stand for what is going on in this country.

Here is my “Striesand Effect” sign displayed for the occasion.

If you’ve never heard about the “Striesand Effect,” you can read all about it on Wikipedia. Basically, it stands for the principle that if you complain about people talking about a subject, you bring more notice to that subject than if you had just shut up in the first place.

Do I think somebody killed Epstein? No, I do not. But the evidence shows that he and POTUS 47 were great friends for a long period of time, had business dealings (which may be an interesting subject all by themselves), and that at the very least, POTUS 47 knew what Epstein was up to with minors. He should be answerable for that, and I hope that the pressure from his own party has some effect (although I realize, what are the chances!).

Here’s the usual boilerplate protest information:

LOCATION: Public right of way, NE corner Glenwood & Brier Creek Pkwy (near Starbucks, Red Robin, in Walmart shopping center). .We’ll be on the elevated grassy area along Glenwood, away from the traffic, and along the sidewalk on Brier Creek Parkway.

PARKING: Park in the adjacent Starbucks / Red Robin parking lots or at Walmart – please spread out so we don’t take all the spaces nearest these businesses.

SIGNS: The grassy knoll area along Glenwood is elevated and safely away from traffic, giving us great visibility along and across the intersection. Don’t have a sign? We have a bunch to share!

BE KIND: This is a peaceful, non-violent demonstration, of course. That extends to avoiding any negative interactions with passers-by. Any rude gestures or angry words should be met with a smile and a wave – and never returned in kind.
