Why We Stand Together Under Threatening Skies

And ask you to join us.

From John Ehlers:

The 09/30 No Tyranny Tuesday protest featured low grey overcast, some wind gusts, and a few sprinkles, but a solid group showed up, including several new folks. My usual friend group couldn’t make it, but I arrayed their signs anyway. It turned out to a special day for me, as I met a special person who reminded me forcefully of why we were there.

I barely had time to set up when I noticed a young man standing back from the front line spread out along Glenwood Ave. He had no sign, so I offered him one. He declined, saying that he could not participate for fear of jeopardizing his job. This is not unusual; we have had other people decline to participate because they feared possible repercussions. He said that he appreciated what we are doing and had just stopped by to tell us that.

This young man shared his inspiring personal story with me, and I wish that I could relate it in detail. But I must honor his concerns, and his privacy. In brief, he was a child who needed a family and found love and understanding in this country, where he grew up and now thrives. Suffice it to say, this young man has served this country, he loves this country, and he would like to see it return to the principles and practices that have made it great.

I hope I see him again so that we can talk more about his experiences and his hope for a better and kinder United States of America. A year ago, even six months ago, I could not have imagined that there would come a day when a young man like this would be afraid to publicly express his views for fear of political retribution.

That’s why we stand together on the corner, and why we are determined to do more to stand up for democracy and the rule of law. Our generation is passing into history, but this young man, and our children, and grandchildren, will live on in the world we leave behind. Please join us. www.no-tyranny.org
